When my doctor first told me that I needed to switch from my toxic cleaners, I was overwhelmed and confused! What was I supposed to clean with? I had no idea what a natural cleaner was; besides, I loved the ease of Clorox wipes, and I had been using Comet since I was a child.
Then I became frustrated thinking, "If it's harmful to my health, and it's not effective, WHY is it on the store shelf??"
My first place to search for healthy cleaners was Pinterest, and I made a few of the cleaners I found, only to discover that vinegar was the only effective ingredient I was using. Then I attended an "Oils of Ancient Scripture" class and learned that the Bible contains a cleaning solution in Exodus, referred to as the Holy Anointing Oil.
Since God created plants with all of their healing compounds, let’s take a look at the five ingredients God gave Moses for the Holy Anointing Oil recipe in Exodus 30:23-25. More than just a symbolic blend, each ingredient in this sacred recipe carries surprising healing properties.
Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much,
even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,
And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary,
and of oil olive an hin: And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment,
an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.
The first ingredient, Myrrh, is often associated with purification, consecration, and burial, pointing to surrender and sacrifice. Often used in aromatherapy to calm the mind and reduce stress.
It has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, traditionally used to treat wounds and infections.
Myrrh contains 65% Sesquiterpenes, a compound which oxygenates, elevates your mood, and deprograms miswritten or garbled codes in the DNA at a cellular level, thus promoting healing.
The next ingredient is Cinnamon, which contains compounds that make cinnamon oil one of the most potent antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiparasitic, and antifungal oils of all.
Next is Calamus, historically used to calm nerves and promote clarity. Calamus is known for soothing the stomach and aiding in digestion. It also acts as a mild expectorant, helpful for coughs and congestion.
The fourth ingredient is Cassia. It's closely related to cinnamon being a powerful natural disinfectant. It’s 80% Aldehydes, meaning they are antiseptic, cleanse cell receptor sites, and detoxifying.
Lastly, the fifth ingredient, Olive Oil, is a symbol of the Holy Spirit, abundance, healing, and anointing throughout Scripture. Olive oil isn’t just a base; it amplifies and carries the benefits of the other ingredients.
God never does anything by happenstance. The blend He instructed for the Holy Anointing Oil isn’t just because it smells so good! These ingredients are chosen for the specific compounds they contain.
Today, we can appreciate the wisdom behind God’s ingredients and even use modern essential oils and herbal remedies inspired by them as part of a holistic, biblical approach to cleaning and health.
However, "natural" is a marketing buzzword these days, and manufacturers also want to profit from the health market. So, how do you know which products to trust? Test them, the results speak for themselves!
THE EXPERIMENT
This petri dish experiment tested Oregano essential oil, the Thieves essential oil blend, and Thieves Cleaner against five popular cleaners: Mrs. Meyer's, Method, Lysol, Seventh Generation, and Clorox cleaners.
The bottom of a child’s shoe was swabbed to collect bacterial samples, which were then added to petri dishes. Then, about three drops of each cleaner or essential oil were added to each dish, and they were sealed with tape. The dishes were then left to sit for 4-5 days, allowing the bacteria to grow.
THE RESULTS
A picture is worth a thousand words, but essential oils and the plant-based cleaner far outperformed the heavily marketed conventional cleaners.
For those who need visual proof to believe that our Creator has provided what mankind needs to care for their health, I hope these stunning results will affirm the power of God's creation and help to strengthen your faith in plant-based cleaning products over the heavily marketed "natural" alternatives.
