5 Toxins to Avoid in Laundry Detergent
Did you know?
...that conventional laundry detergent is a leading cause of skin irritation, allergies, and respiratory issues - especially in children?

We don't often think about it, but the residues left on clothes and linens from conventional detergents sit on our skin, often causing low-level irritation, not to mention the chemical load that absorbs into our fat cells over time!

Yes! Your detergent could be causing weight gain!!

Things like SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), the foaming agent, irritate the skin, eyes, and lungs. Or Phosphates are linked to cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and death.

Dyes have no cleaning value but cause allergies or rashes, many are proven carcinogens, and almost all are endocrine disruptors. Are you having hormone issues?

Even the so-called 'green' options may contain hidden sulfates, dyes, and fragrances, among other things!

THE NEW "F" WORD…

Let's talk about the NEW "F" word - fragrance. Yes, fragrance needs to go in the dirty word category.

The fragrance is a loosely defined term for personal care and household products. Fragrances and synthetic perfumes are problematic because companies aren't required to disclose the exact ingredients in the fragrances.

Even the term' natural fragrance' is problematic. Just because something is natural doesn't mean we want to rub it on our skin (i.e., formaldehyde - (used to preserve dead bodies,) a naturally occurring compound we don't want on our skin!)

Plus, almost all conventional options contain optical brighteners

Optical brighteners merely give clothing the appearance of being clean. By reflecting blue light, optical brighteners give the illusion of whiter-looking fabrics. The design of these chemicals is to absorb directly into fabrics and remain on clothes well after washing.

WHAT OTHER HOMEMAKERS ARE SAYING

* "So happy with the Thieves laundry soap. Other soaps and their fragrance bothered my husband's lungs and gave my children rashes and eczema."

* "This laundry soap is safe enough for our newborn's clothes, yet it can handle the red clay stains on my older kid's knees. I'm sold!"

* "It still baffles me that ingredients that are KNOWN carcinogens are still allowed to be used in products. We switched to Thieves laundry soap a couple of years ago and love it!!

* "I love this laundry soap! We get eczema, and some soaps break us out in severe hives. Since we switched to Thieves laundry soap two years ago, we have had no outbreaks at all."
