6 Reasons You Gain Weight from Lack of Sleep
"It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep." Psalms 127:2

Worry is the worst bedtime snack you can eat. I’m sure we’ve all experienced this at some point, but God designed sleep to heal and rejuvenate the organs and cells.

So, if you’re sleeping less than 7 hours a night, it can affect weight gain, and here are six reasons why.

6 Reasons You Gain Weight from Lack of Sleep

1. Increased Cortisol Levels: Sleep deprivation elevates cortisol, the stress hormone, which encourages your body to store more fat, especially in the abdominal area.

2. Increased Cravings: Individuals who are sleep-deprived often experience increased cravings for sugar, carbs, and caffeine. This is because your brain is seeking a quick source of energy to counteract the fatigue,

3. Hormonal Imbalance: A lack of sleep disrupts the hormonal balance that regulates hunger and appetite. Levels of ghrelin, the hormone that stimulates appetite, increase, while levels of leptin, which suppresses appetite, decrease. This imbalance leads you to eat more than you normally would.

4. Metabolic Slowdown: A lack of sleep can hinder your body's ability to metabolize food efficiently. This means your calories are more likely to be stored as fat rather than burned for energy.

5. Insulin Resistance: Insufficient sleep affects your body's insulin sensitivity. When cells become resistant to insulin, glucose (sugar) is more likely to be stored as fat, particularly around the abdomen, leading to weight gain.

6. Reduced Physical Activity: Tiredness from lack of sleep can make you less likely to engage in physical activities, reducing the number of calories you burn daily.

Maintaining a good sleep routine is crucial for overall well-being and healthy weight management.

Studies found that chronically sleep-deprived people are more likely to be overweight and develop cardiovascular disease, strokes, infections, and cancer.

As Christians, we must remember that we are stewards of our bodies, which is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit and the tool God uses to accomplish His purpose.

Tired temples cannot serve the Lord spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically as they should.

Hello, I'm Dana!

If I had known the TRUTH about the toxic carcinogens lurking inside the FOODS, CLEANING, PERSONAL CARE, and LAUNDRY products I was buying, I would have done more to preserve my health! Like most American's, I had NO CLUE; there were toxins in them that were DESTROYING my body.

Since 2013, when my journey back to wellness began, I have spent loads of money, (because insurance doesn't cover WELL care) hours learning what the root cause of my chronic pain, fatigue, dense brain fog, and lethargy was from.

After four years of researching and experimenting with different so-called "natural or green" products, and RE-learning how to shop, read labels, cook, and clean my struggle to find safe, plant-based products was complete. I easily began transforming my home into a safe environment that no longer created health problems. I have now replaced all of my medications with plant-based foods and products that work wonderfully without the side effects!!

Are you struggling to find real relief for your symptoms too? Do you desire to find the health God designed you to have? Would you enjoy a community of wellness-seeking people to help educate you, share experiences, and some great tips?

I'm confident this is what you're searching for too. Let me invite you to join my educational group Biblical Health for Christ-Centered Homemakers. Want to chat more about your journey to wellness and how you can help your family too? Click below to contact me now!
