3 Reasons to Take Responsibility for Your Own Health
There comes a time when we must take matters into our own hands. This is usually the case when someone has been neglectful, and another must step up and take over the responsibility.

As stewards of God's temple, we are the ones in charge of managing the care and keeping of this fleshly dwelling.

"A steward is one to whose care or honor anything has been instructed."  Strong's Concordance

Now full stewardship would include all aspects of care from outward adorning to things we watch and hear, but today I'm referring to the care concerning our health, whether it be our physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual well-being. Each of these interacts with the other to create health or dis-ease.

We were each created with a divine purpose, and to fulfill that purpose will require our body, the vessel set apart for the Master's use. It's much easier to complete a task when we feel good, right?

"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God,
and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? I Corinthians 3:16

Since we belong to God and we're the stewards of HIS temple, there are 4 reasons we must take responsibility for our health.

First, because we have an enemy that hates anything that belongs to God.  His purpose is to physically, mentally, or emotionally destroy these vessels. He also knows if he damages or destroys un in one area, the other two will also be weakened.

He has gone to great lengths to destroy the Christian homemaker mentally, be demeaning the position.
"The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world."  William Ross Wallace
Year by year, the influence of the world's society has crept into our lifestyle, creating a health-harming environment to live in. Did you know that EPA studies show a homemaker who stays home to care for her family is more likely to get cancer than one that works out in public?

The second reason is that we have a divine purpose no one else can fill. We have a home to manage, minds to form, and mouths to feed as wives and moms. As empty-nesters or widows, our purpose transitions to encouraging and blessing those outside of our home as our time transitions to a different role.

We each have responsibilities that no one else can fill if we neglect our health responsibilities that put undue burdens on those we love and hinder God's divine purpose for our lives.

"...Who then is that faithful and wise steward,...to give them
their portion of meat in due season?" Luke 12:42

We often think of this for our husband because we count on him to support us, but the truth is it would be equally as difficult for him to manage without us. However, each of us is equally responsible for caring for our health, so we don't cause unnecessary difficulty for the family.

Thirdly, God is glorified by the health of his children In the old testament, the Jews avoided plagues and disease because they were obedient to God's instructions. However, when they intermingled with the other nations in immorality or dietary habits or disobeyed God, they became sick with the same diseases and plagues as the other nations.

Obedience to God's health instructions gives him glory proving his ways are higher than ours. Aren't you happy when your children are healthy and happy? I know God feels the same way about us!

"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and
be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." III John 2

When we fail to be good stewards, we will have to live with the consequences of our choices.  Whether we know we're making bad choices or not, we will still reap the negative consequences.

There was a certain rich man who had a steward:
and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods...
give an account of thy stewardship:
for thou mayest be no longer steward. Luke 16:1-2

We see our homemaker friends start having all of the "common" symptoms around the age of 40 is that 40 years is about as long as the human body can stand wrong choices. Have you begun to notice how much younger diseases are beginning to show up?

Unfortunately, our enemy still has a lot to do with our health choices. Satan is still "in the garden" (factories, fast-food restaurants), tempting us with foods we should not be eating.  Only this time, it is our physical health he's out to destroy, not our spiritual one.  He has changed what God designed for us into "convenient" and "fast food." Because our lifestyles are beyond humanly possible busy, we don't have time to cook and eat what God designed to nourish and heal our bodies.

Did you know the Great Physician designed us with a plan to care for our health? It's time to awaken from the world's health philosophies, find God's health care plan that has been hidden from us, and take responsibility for our health and his temple.
