Recently, I was reading Psalm 32 about confessing sin, and I noticed that it describes the physical effects that unconfessed sin has on the body. Today, let’s dissect these verses.
...my bones waxed old... - waxing is a hardening, remember the bones produce red and white blood cells and platelets, they store minerals which are vital to our health, so hardening hinders our health.
...through my roaring all the day long. - Strong’s Concordance defines roaring as a distress cry. The internal mental torment caused by wrestling against our flesh and the Holy Spirit.
This emotional stress on the mind causes cortisol to rise, leading to the depletion of essential minerals. It increases heart rate, shuts off digestion, and robs us of precious healing sleep.
Verse 4 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me:...- wrestling with the Holy Spirit does feel like a heavy weight that we drag around, doesn’t it? He loves us so much that he doesn't leave us alone.
... my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. Have you experienced heavy conviction that caused nervous sweating? Excessive sweating can lead to dehydration.
Ladies, when we are harboring unconfessed sin, the consequence is poor health. Even though you may be eating the healthiest foods, walking daily, drinking enough water and taking the highest quality supplements (and I hope you are) Our bodies can’t function and heal properly under the mental stress and strain that Holy Spirit conviction, pride, unforgiveness and selfishness put on the heart and mind.
Relief and Healing Come
Verse 5. I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
What an emotional relief it is when we finally confess our sin and find peace of mind in His forgiveness.
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
The key here is finding accountability. By bringing our faults into the light and revealing what we’ve kept hidden, we release the control they've had over our hearts and minds.
Ultimately, good health requires a clean heart, and Christians should be the healthiest group of people on earth.
A good verse to start your prayer time with is Psalms 139:23-24
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
