When Detox Becomes Discipleship: Caring for Your Liver is Health Stewardship
The liver is one of the body’s hardest-working organs, and when it comes to detoxification, it’s the superstar. Acting as your body’s natural filter, the liver processes everything from toxins and chemicals to the fats and sugars you consume daily. But just like any hardworking system, the liver can get overloaded. All we need is a little daily support and regular detoxification to keep this critical organ functioning well!

THE LIVER AT A GLANCE

  • Filters toxins, chemicals, and waste from the bloodstream on a constant basis

The liver works tirelessly to filter toxins, regulate metabolism, and support digestion, but in today’s world, it can become overburdened by processed foods, environmental toxins, and stress. 

Supporting liver health requires a balance of gentle, daily habits along with occasional intentional cleanses to help reset and rejuvenate its function. 

 THE GALLBLADDER

The gallbladder is a small but vital organ that stores and releases bile, a digestive fluid essential for breaking down fats. When functioning optimally, it supports smooth digestion and nutrient absorption, but poor diet and sluggish bile flow can lead to discomfort and gallstones.


The liver and gallbladder work closely together in the process of filtering things in the body. While the liver produces bile to break down fats and eliminate waste, the gallbladder stores and releases that bile into the digestive system when needed. 

 But over time, these organs get congested and can’t function at their best.  Supporting the gallbladder naturally with bitter foods, hydration, and gentle detox practices helps maintain its health and prevent stagnation.

In traditional and holistic medicine, the liver is closely linked to emotional well-being, particularly in storing unresolved emotions like anger, frustration, and stress.

Essential oils, breathwork, and intentional self-care can help clear emotional blockages and restore balance.

  • Use essential oils like Lavender, Frankincense, and Valor or Peace & Calming to soothe stress and encourage emotional release.
  • Practice deep breathing or meditation to calm the nervous system and support liver function. This is wonderful when paired with Valor or Peace & Calming, as both of these oils contain Blue Tansy, which is known to calm the nervous system.
  • Incorporate liver-supporting supplement to aid detoxification. Engage in gentle movement like walking or stretching to release stored tension and energy. Diffuse and apply oils before and during your practice.
  • Journal or practice emotional release techniques to process and let go of pent-up anger or frustration. This is another great time to diffuse and apply your oil(s) of choice.

Eat liver-cleansing foods–beets, leafy greens, and lemons that stimulate bile production and flush out toxins.
