Rethinking Sick Care: Supporting Your Health Before You're Sick
For half of my life, I didn't think about my health unless I was sick. Maybe you can relate.
You feel a scratchy throat coming on, and suddenly you're searching the cabinet, wondering, What do I have in here? That's how many of us learned to think about health.

When something goes wrong. Then we do something about it.

This is a reactive approach. But discovering natural health changed that perspective for me.

Your Body Wasn't Designed to Sit Helplessly Waiting for Illness

Psalm 139:14 says:
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works…”

The more I've learned about the human body, the more meaningful that verse has become.
God designed us with incredibly complex systems that are working every moment to protect, repair, regulate, and maintain us.

Your immune system is one of them. It's constantly interacting with your environment and identifying what belongs in your body and what doesn't.

That’s why the better time to think about immune health isn't after we're sick, but rather every day.

But Natural Health Can Get Overwhelming

This is where a woman who's just beginning to explore natural health can get overwhelmed.
You start reading, and suddenly everyone has something you “need.”
  • Elderberry.
  • Vitamin C.
  • Vitamin D.
  • Zinc.
  • Essential oils.
  • Herbs.
  • Probiotics.
  • Medicinal mushrooms.
Where do you even begin?

Before long, your search for natural wellness can become confusing! I've learned that natural health doesn't need to begin with buying everything someone recommends. It begins with understanding what the body needs at the moment.

Start With the Foundations

Before asking which supplement supports immunity, ask whether you're giving your immune system the basic resources it needs to function.
  • Nourishing whole foods
  • Adequate water
  • Restorative sleep
  • Regular movement
  • Fresh air and sunshine
  • Healthy relationships
  • Appropriate rest and stress management
No, these things aren't exciting; they are disciplinary. Nobody is going to make a viral video announcing the amazing new discovery of going to bed on time!

But foundational habits matter. And once those foundations are being supported, we can begin learning about the foods, herbs, essential oils, nutrients, and other natural tools that may complement them.
Of course, if you are fighting a seasonal illness, taking some supplements would be appropriate while implementing your foundations to support the body’s healing process.

God's Creation Has Always Been Part of Caring for the Body

Genesis 1:29 says:
“Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed…and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.”
From the very beginning, God provided nourishment through His creation. Throughout history, people have also used plants and foods in traditional approaches to health.

That doesn't mean everything labeled “natural” is automatically safe or effective. And it certainly doesn't mean there's never a place for physicians, testing, medication, or appropriate medical treatment.

Natural health isn't about choosing a side. For me, it's about learning to support the body's God-given design while using wisdom about the tools available to us in order to reduce the need for urgent care and over-the-counter medicines.

You Don't Need to Learn Everything Today

If you're new to natural health, please don't look at someone else's overflowing cabinet and think you need to recreate it. That stash took years to build.

I didn't learn everything I know overnight. And I'm still learning. Start with understanding your body systems, especially the ones you're struggling with. Then learn about one natural option at a time.

Ask what it's traditionally used for, what evidence supports it, whether it's appropriate for you, and how it fits with the foundations you're already building. That's much different from buying something simply because someone on social media said every woman needs it.

Build Your Cabinet With Wisdom

Proverbs 19:20 says:
“Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.”
That's what I want for you! Not fear. Not an overflowing supplement cabinet.

Wisdom.

As we move into fall, perhaps it's time to think differently about your medicine cabinet.
Don't wait until someone in the house gets sick and then frantically ask, What should I do? Begin learning and preparing now for what’s to come. Support your foundations. Become curious about the resources God placed in His creation.

Respiratory and flu support would be good to have on hand. Then little by little, build your knowledge alongside your cabinet.

That's biblical health stewardship, not trying to control every illness, but faithfully caring for the body God has entrusted to you.

Hello, I'm Dana!

I used to struggle with painful joints, exhaustion, and excess weight. I wanted to enjoy time with my family and serve in church ministries, but some days I barely had the energy to keep up.

At the worst point of my health, the Lord led me to learn about nutrition, supplements, and the chemicals I was using in my home. Making small changes gradually over six months drastically improved my health and changed how I cared for it.

Now I help Christian women who are active in serving their families and/or church ministries renew their health, support better sleep, manage fatigue, and care for their blood sugar. We focus on nutrition, supplements, movement, and a biblical mindset, one step at a time.

If that’s you, get in touch. I’d love to help.
