What If I have... MTHFR
The truth is, we all have MTHFR, the problem is whether or not we have SNPS in our genes. A nurse practitioner friend once said a good test for SNPs is how your body reacts to Benedryl. The last time I had a dose of Benedryl, I was in bed for 2 days, not a good thing with 5 kids to take care of!

This little acronym stands for "methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase." MTHFR is a gene that plays a key role in processing certain amino acids, like homocysteine, and in converting folate (vitamin B9) into a form the body can actually use. There are many wonderful ways to support your body with the proper nutrients and essential oils!

MTHFR AT A GLANCE

Mutations affect your body's ability to detoxify, absorb nutrients, and even produce energy. The most common issue is processing folate and B vitamins. MTHFR mutations can affect energy levels, mood, and more.

WHAT IS AN MTHFR SNP?

The MTHFR gene comes in different variations. Some people have no SNPs or mutations, while others may have one or two copies of it. Having a mutation can potentially lead to higher levels of homocysteine, a compound associated with cardiovascular and other health issues. It can also affect how your body processes folate and other B vitamins, impacting everything from energy levels to mood, and even your ability to detox properly.

SUPPORTING WITH SUPPLEMENTS

If you've been diagnosed with an MTHFR mutation, the good news is that you can make lifestyle adjustments to support your health. One of the best ways to manage this condition is by supplementing with methylated vitamins and minerals. These are nutrients that have been pre-activated so your body can absorb them more easily.

B Complex

Since those with MTHFR mutations struggle to process regular folate (found in many standard supplements), it's essential to switch to a methylated form of folate. This helps support energy production, cognitive function, and overall wellness.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants help combat oxidative stress, which those with MTHFR mutations may struggle to manage. The antioxidant support is excellent for keeping inflammation at bay and supporting detox pathways.

Methylated Multivitamin

It is a great multivitamin designed with bioavailable forms of essential nutrients, including those needed by people with MTHFR. It contains methylated folate and B12, alongside other vital vitamins and minerals that help support heart health, brain function, and overall wellness.

MSM

People with MTHFR mutations sometimes struggle with detoxification due to compromised methylation. A natural sulfur compound, MSM, that supports detoxification and helps maintain healthy joints, skin, and hair. This supplement aids in breaking down toxins and supporting glutathione production, which is crucial for detox.

ESSENTIAL OILS THAT CAN HELP
Essential oils can support your body in managing the symptoms associated with MTHFR mutations, like stress, inflammation, and detoxification.

Frankincense: Known for its grounding and calming properties, Frankincense is an oil that supports overall wellness. It's excellent for managing stress and anxiety, which can be more prevalent in individuals with MTHFR mutations due to disrupted serotonin and dopamine pathways.

Lemon: Lemon is fantastic for supporting the liver and aiding detoxification.

Lavender: For those nights when sleep is elusive (a common issue for people with MTHFR), Lavender essential oil can help calm your mind and support a restful night's sleep. Diffusing it before bed or applying a few drops to your pillow can make a big difference in how rested you feel.

OTHER LIFESTYLE TIPS FOR MTHFR SNPs

  • Eat a nutrient-dense, whole foods diet. Focus on leafy greens, grass-fed meats, and foods high in natural folate (like spinach and avocados).
  • Avoid synthetic folic acid. Instead, look for foods and supplements that contain methylated folate, like Super B.
  • Supporting detoxification with exercise, hydration, and practices like dry brushing can help your body detox more efficiently.
  • Manage stress by incorporating practices like Bible reading, prayer, and box breathing, and consider using calming essential oils, such as lavender, or stress-relieving blends.
Having an MTHFR mutation isn't the end of the world, but it does mean that your body might need some extra support and reduced exposure to toxins.

By incorporating methylated supplements, antioxidant-rich products, and essential oils into your daily routine, you can help your body function optimally. With the right tools and knowledge, you can manage your MTHFR mutation and live a healthy, vibrant life.

Hello, I'm Dana!

If I had known the truth about the toxic carcinogens lurking in the foods, cleaning products, personal care items, and laundry products I was buying, I would have done more to preserve my health! Like most Americans, I had NO CLUE; there were toxins in them that were DESTROYING my body.

Since 2013, when my journey back to wellness began, I have spent loads of money (because insurance doesn't cover WELL care) and hours learning what the root cause of my chronic pain, fatigue, dense brain fog, and lethargy was.

After four years of researching and experimenting with different so-called "natural or green" products, and re-learning how to shop, read labels, cook, and clean, my struggle to find safe, plant-based products was complete. I easily began transforming my home into a safe environment that no longer created health problems. I have now replaced all of my medications with plant-based foods and products that work wonderfully without the side effects!!

Are you struggling to find real relief for your symptoms, too? Do you desire to see the health God designed you to have? Would you enjoy a community of wellness-seeking people to help educate you, share experiences, and offer some great tips?

I'm confident this is what you're searching for, too. Let me invite you to join my educational group, Biblical Health for Christ-Centered Homemakers. Want to chat more about your journey to wellness and how you can help your family, too? Click below to contact me now!
